Staged Memory Care: Early Stage
Early Stage memory care supports residents while allowing for the greatest level of personal independence
At Emerald Crest, we believe in encouraging the skills and abilities our residents have, while our trained staff supplements the ones they may be missing. With this mission as our guide, we offer three levels of dementia care, each tailored to a specific stage in progression. In Early Stage dementia, residents may be physically independent, but thrive with assistance in areas such as organization and safety, in the Vine House.
The Vine House: An Early Stage Memory Care Residential Home
Our Vine House is designed to specifically match the cares and needs that occur early in memory loss progression, and residents here enjoy meaningful interaction with others of similar capability. There is a strong sense of home and community as we encourage residents to grow and thrive, to maintain the highest levels of ability and independence. Staff guide and support residents throughout the day while offering opportunities for social interaction, sharing stories, and exercising mind, body, and spirit.
Staff Training
As assisted living memory care providers, our registered nurses and human resource representatives serve as our primary staff trainers. We maintain cohesive teams that receive ongoing education and training to best care for those with early stage memory loss. With our consistent focus on abilities, and in cooperation with family members, individual care plans are developed collaboratively for each individual resident. This customization promotes an ongoing sense of purpose and pride for all involved, and allows residents to thrive and retain life skills for longer periods of time.
The Role of Evaluation in Selecting Early Stage Care
The Allen Cognitive Scale is just one of several tools we use to create a personalized plan for care. Created by occupational therapist Claudia Allen, it’s an in-depth assessment tool used to highlight a resident’s abilities, identify needs over time, and help plan treatment and guide placement in our residences. Early Stage memory care in our Vine House corresponds, approximately, with Level 4 on the Allen Scale.
About the Vine House Environment
Our Vine House physical environment plays a key role in providing premier memory care assisted living services. The Vine House is a single-story barrier-free home, accommodating no more than 12-15 private suites. Individual suites feature private rooms with private bathrooms and a home-style kitchen. Connected spaces include safe interior and exterior walking paths, common areas and a courtyard, with comfortable settings that encourage activity, interaction, and socialization. The entire design supports residents with Early Stage memory care needs, with environmental features intended to best support personalized and attentive care. In the Vine House, meaningful and engaging activities are specially selected for residents. See an example of a Vine House Daily Schedule below, or click here to see full PDF file.
